Triad sings my new choral piece "Sing Child"
01.11.2016
Notícias
A new piece that I wrote for Triad: Boston's Choral Collective will premiere on November 19 and 20. "Sing Child" will be the opening work in this concert, titled 'Music for a Lifetime'. The text is made up of single words or short phrases that evoke a sensation or activity in the life of a child, and the music evokes the hazy, suspended quality that I remember about my own childhood. I think the effect is a bit like Terry Riley's "In C" or perhaps some of the music of Ligeti that involves tone ...
A performance by Musica Sacra of Cambridge, Massachusetts
10.12.2014
Notícias
My choral piece 'Nowell' will be performed on Saturday, December 13 by Musica Sacra, Mary Beekman, director. This is their second performance of the piece, and last time (a few years ago) it was wonderful - the choir is full of young, energetic singers, and their enthusiasm was great to see and hear. For more information on the concert, follow this link: Musica Sacra Dec 13 concert info .

Pieces of mine on the program included "The Unarmed Man," for flute, clarinet and doublebass, "Sweet Gazelle" for shakuhachi and guitar, "Spinning" for clarinet and guitar, "Two Angel Duets" for clarinet and doublebass, ...
July performances of my opera 'Paper or Plastic' in Boston and Cambridge
13.07.2013
Notícias
My one-act opera 'Paper or Plastic' takes place in the checkout line of a food coop. Among the customers is a man who recently lost his wife, and suddenly the choice of paper or plastic bags seems impossible to him. The cashier and a nerdy scientific-type customer help him to work through his impasse. The opera is in one act, lasts about 30 minutes and is scored for four singers and six instruments. Poet/playwright Monica Raymond created the concept and libretto. The premiere will be part of the ...
Katelyn Clark performs my harpsichord music
12.01.2013
Notícias
Katelyn Clark played some of my toy piano music at the Mobius Toy Piano Festival last year, and I was impressed by her playing, so I wrote a 20 minute piece for her major instrument, harpsichord. She is a resident musician at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, and on January 24 will perform parts of my piece, "Persephone Dreams of Day". The piece is intended to be danced (one or two dancers), or may be performed as a concert piece. Here is a link to Kate's web site , worth seeing just for ...
Aaron Larget-Caplan performs my guitar piece
11.01.2013
Notícias
I made an arrangement of my musical theater song, "White Potatoes" for Aaron Larget-Caplan's New Lullaby Project , and it will be premiered tonight at a Boston House Concert. Aaron is a wonderful performer, and he has received about fifty lullaby submissions from composers all over the world.
A brief opera and a wedding song
03.08.2012
Notícias
I was asked to sing at my niece's wedding last weekend, and discovered that I don't really like many of the standard songs for weddings. So, in collaboration with my wife (also a composer), I wrote a new wedding song, "You Will Feel No Rain", to an anonymous Native American text. We performed it at the wedding (I sang, my wife played). I think it suited the occasion nicely. I also completed the score of a short (ca. 11 minutes) opera for soprano, baritone, and piano. Called "Catechism", it is a ...
A new work for harpsichord
02.07.2012
Notícias
I recently completed a 20-minute work for harpsichord for Katelyn Clark of Montreal, Canada. Titled 'Persephone Dreams of Day', it is also a ballet or dance piece for one or two dancers. Inspired by Couperin's harpsichord suites and Stravinsky's 'Apollo', it is neoclassical in style. I am working towards a performance with dancers, possibly in Boston.
